“Le Relais des Eléphants Colorés” is located in the hamlet of Les Guis near the villages of Virlet and Pionsat, surrounded by forests and meadows of the Combrailles. The Combrailles is a quiet, hilly (small-scale) farming region in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the Auvergne; the green heart of France. You regularly come across a herd of cows that are grazed.

The village of Pionsat is 5 km from the Chambres d’Hôtes. In addition to a castle with museum (Musée de la Resistance), you will also find a supermarket, hotel / restaurant, bakery, butcher and various other shops.

In the immediate vicinity of the Chambres d’Hôtes are beautiful walking and cycling trips, where there is the chance to encounter small game such as deer, foxes, martens, birds of prey.

Within half an hour’s drive there is a beautiful golf course (Golf de Sainte-Agathe), where golf lovers can play a challenging game on the hilly landscape. There are several other golf courses within an hour’s drive of the Chambres d’Hôtes.

Of course you can also make beautiful day trips. Large cities such as the university town of Clermont-Ferrand with beautiful old buildings made of lava rock, but also Riom and Montluçon are definitely worth a visit.

In nature it is also more than enjoyment. Examples of this are the Gorges de la Sioul, where various canoe trips can be made, and the beautiful Puy-de-Dôme volcanic area where you can, among other things, paraglide, mountain climbing, swim in a volcanic lake or visit the Vulcania theme park.

In addition, there are many other options in the area, such as visiting various castles, unwinding in one of the many thermal baths and spas, strolling brittle markets, but also visiting local markets with specific regional products such as cheese (Bleu d ‘ Auvergne) and sausage cannot be missed.

In short: the Auvergne has a lot to offer for both young and old!
